1. Basil or Tulsi Leaf Toner
- Basil leaf
Neem leaves, oil are very good and gentle for the skin. Take the water in a pan and boil it. Shred the Tulsi or basil leaves into pieces. Put them in the boiling water and turn off the flame. Let it stay there for 30 minutes or so. Lastly, strain it and store it in the refrigerator. Use it when needed. This is very good for combination skin and also tones sensitive skin.
2. Ginger Juice Toner
Ginger has about 40 antioxidants that fight free radicals, protects against aging, tone and even skin complexion and improves elasticity. Chop your ginger and make a paste of it. Boil the water. Add the paste and let it sip for 10-15 minutes. Strain out all the fibers from the paste. Store it in the refrigerator and use as needed.
3. Tomato-Cucumber Toner
Cucumber contains ascorbic and caffeic acid that soothe skin irritation and reduce swelling. As for tomato it cures large pores, soothes irritation and sunburn, reduces acne and rashes. Take your tomato and cucumber and chop it. Later take the same amount of the chop veggies and put them in a juicer. Make juice out of it. It can be stored in the refrigerator for a longer time and its shelf life is about 1 or 3 days. It is a great solution for combination skin.
4. Mint Toner
- Handful of mint
- 100g water
Boil the water and drop in the mints. Let it be on flame for some time and put off the flame and let it rest for 15-25 minutes. Once done strain and store it in an airtight bottle in the refrigerator.
5. Rose Water Toner
It is the best toner out there for all types of skin. It works in a short time. You can either buy it from the store or made at home. For making at home:-
- Dried rosebuds
- Distilled water
Put in the rosebuds in boiling hot water and let it steep for a good amount of time. An hour or two. Later, store it in a nice container and use as you feel. It can stay good outside of the fridge for a long time too. Not need to strain the bud immediately but let it be. It looks good and infuses more.
6. Witch Hazel
Witch hazel itself is great for skin. It works for all skin type and manages the pH very well. Using it on combination skin is the safest way to tone it. You can apply witch hazel just by simply soak a cotton ball or pad and rubbing it to the skin.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar and Mint Toner
- Mint leaves
- Apple cider vinegar
- Rosewater (optional)
Dilute the vinegar with water. It is dangerous to apply vinegar directly on face. It will irritate the skin. Dilute it nicely. Then throw in some chopped mint leaves. Let it steep for 4-5 hours. Strain it or you may leave it too. Store in a glass container. Keep it in a dark cool place. Rosewater is optional depending on either you can stand the smell or not. Or you can completely alter the water with rosewater.
8. Sandalwood Essential Oil
- Sandalwood essential oil (Check it on Amazon)
- Water/rosewater/witch hazel
Sandalwood has been used on the skin for a really long time. Its essential oil is very good for skin. Dilute it in any of your favorite solvents and apply on face. Add a few drops not much. As essential oils are very active and they cannot be used directly on the skin. If your skin can withstand any oil that you may dilute it in any lightweight non-greasy oil too.
Juniper and lemongrass are also a nice choice of essential oil for combination skin.
9. Raw Potato
Juice of raw potato also works well as a toner. Just take a slice and run it. You do not have to do much. Wash your potato, cut a slice of it and rub it on the skin. it is a great spot remover too. Great for darkness or knuckles, knees, elbow, underarms, thighs, etc.
10. Rosewater and Witch Hazel Toner
- 100ml Rosewater hydrolat
- 50ml Witch hazel hydrolat
Mix the two ingredients. Keep it in an airtight container. Can be kept for several weeks. Apply twice daily with cotton balls or cotton rounds. Leave to dry naturally on the skin.
11. Lime and Orange Blossom Toner
- 1 tbsp dried lime flowers or elderflowers
- 50 ml Apple Cider Vinegar
- 150ml orange blossom hydrolat
Dilute the vinegar in orange blossom. Add the flowers to the solution. Let it rest for hours. Then store it like previous one. This toner provides your skin with Vitamin C.

- Toners are best to use right after washing face with a cleanser. So that it can clear away all left impurities and clear the clogs. But, as it also closes the pores many refer to use it at the last step.
- Toners can be used anytime for multiple amounts of time as they are safe. But, do not miss the night before bed.
